Hon. Jessica G. Gonzalez
Brownsville ISD
The Honorable Jessica G. González serves as President of the Board of Trustees of Brownsville ISD, one of the Top 20 Latinx-serving public school districts in Texas. A stay-at-home mother of four, President Gonzalez is a strong parent/family advocate who has served on the Brownsville ISD Board of Trustees for three years. A committed parent volunteer, her motto is “Family First, Always.”

Hon. S. Jaime Arredondo
Corpus Christi ISD
The Honorable S. Jaime Arredondo serves as Vice President of the Board of Trustees of Corpus Christi ISD, one of the Top 20 Latinx-serving public school districts in Texas. A retired educator and lifelong advocate of public education, he worked for 37 years as a teacher, principal, school leadership director and state migrant director, as well as a staff consultant at the Texas Education Agency. Vice President Arredondo earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and was a doctoral fellow in the Cooperative Superintendents Program at The University of Texas at Austin.

Hon. Joe Carreón
Dallas ISD
The Honorable Joe Carreón serves as a Trustee on the Board of Trustees of Dallas ISD, one of the Top 20 Latinx-serving public school districts in Texas. A proud product of Dallas ISD schools and a former AmeriCorps volunteer, he has served in various government offices, including the Dallas Mayor’s Office, the Office of the Colorado Governor, and the White House. Trustee Carreón earned his undergraduate degree from Southern Methodist University (SMU), his Master of Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, and his law degree from the SMU Dedman School of Law.

Hon. Dr. Camille Rodriguez
Fort Worth ISD
The Honorable Doctor Camille Rodríguez serves as President of the Board of Trustees of the Fort Worth ISD, one of the Top 20 Latinx-serving public school districts in Texas. A native of the historic North Side of Fort Worth and proud product of FWISD schools, she earned her B.S. in Biology from Prairie View A&M University and graduated with honors from New York College of Podiatric Medicine in New York City. She serves on several boards, including the Artes de la Rosa Cultural Center for the Arts, Ballet Folklórico Azteca de Fort Worth, and the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra.

Hon. Dr. Karla Duran
Northside ISD
The Honorable Doctor Karla Durán serves as a Trustee on the Board of Trustees of Northside ISD, one of the Top 20 Latinx-serving public school districts in Texas. A native of Mexico City, she was raised in Arlington, Texas, then earned her B.B.A, M.B.A. and Ph.D. from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. A bilingual educator and certified diversity professional, Trustee Durán has worked for the Northside ISD, Alamo Heights ISD and Alamo Colleges District. She currently serves as a school administrator in the San Antonio ISD and as an adjunct professor at the University of the Incarnate Word.

Hon. Dr. Cynthia Gutierrez
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD
The Honorable Doctor Cynthia Gutiérrez serves as President of the Board of Trustees of Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD, one of the Top 20 Latinx-serving public school districts in Texas. A product of PSJA schools and former science teacher & parent trainer specialist, she earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from UT Pan American, her M.B.A. in Health Care Administration from UT Rio Grande Valley, and her Doctor of Medicine from the Universidad México Americana del Norte in Reynosa, Mexico. An epidemiologist, Dr. Gutiérrez surveils communicable diseases. She is a strong advocate, supporter, and loves helping create bilingual, bicultural and biliterate citizens!

Hon. Ed Garza
San Antonio ISD
The Honorable Ed Garza serves as Trustee on the Board of Trustees of San Antonio ISD, one of the Top 20 Latinx-serving public school districts in Texas. After earning his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture & Urban Planning and his Master of Science in Land & Real Estate Development from Texas A&M University, he served two terms on the San Antonio City Council before being elected the youngest-ever mayor of San Antonio in 2001. Elected to the San Antonio ISD Board in 2009, he has served on numerous corporate and governing boards and has received numerous awards and citations.

Hon. Dr. Moises Alfaro
Mathis ISD (ESC 2)
The Honorable Doctor Moisés Alfaro serves as Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Mathis ISD. He represents ESC Region 2 on our TLSBA Board of Advisors. Dr. Alfaro earned his B.A. in Biology/Biological Sciences from The University of Texas at Austin, and his M.S. in Educational Administration & Supervision and his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership & Administration from Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Dr. Alfaro has worked for several years for various firms within the safety industry, and he represents ESC Region 2 on the Board of Directors of the Texas Association of School Boards.

Hon. Janie Guerrero
Manor ISD (ESC 13)
The Honorable Janie Guerrero has served on the Board of Trustees of the Manor ISD since 2016. She represents ESC Region 13 on our TLSBA Board of Advisors. A native of Crystal City, Trustee Guerrero has lived in Manor for 24 years. A former Travis County deputy constable and Austin ISD parent support specialist, Trustee Guerrero has chaired the Manor ISD Parent Engagement Committee and now sits on the School Safety Committee. Trustee Guerrero has also served on the board of National Educational Service Centers of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC).

Hon. Kayla Mendez
Amarillo ISD (ESC 16)
The Honorable Kayla Mendez was elected to the Amarillo ISD Board of Trustees in 2019 and currently serves as her board’s Vice President. She represents ESC Region 16 on our TLSBA Board of Advisors. After receiving her B.S. in Chemical Engineering, with a minor in bioengineering and mathematics, from Texas Tech University in 2015, Trustee Mendez earned her graduate degree in Finance & Economics from West Texas A&M University in 2018. A process engineer and dedicated community leader, Trustee Mendez was recognized by the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce as a “Top 20 Under 40” award winner in 2023.

Hon. Blanca Trout
Canutillo ISD (ESC 19)
The Honorable Blanca Trout serves as a Trustee on the Board of Trustees of the Canutillo ISD. She represents ESC Region 19 on our TLSBA Board of Advisors. A small business owner and teacher of baile folklórico, she earned her Associate of Business Administration from El Paso Community College and is licensed by the Federal Civil Aviation Agency in Mexico. An active participant in the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities, Trustee Trout possesses certifications from the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the El Paso Behavioral Health System, and The University of Texas Health Science Center.

Hon. Margarita Morales-Garcia
Southside ISD (ESC 20)
The Honorable Margarita “Maggie” Morales-García serves as a Trustee on the Board of Trustees of the Southside ISD. She represents ESC Region 20 on our TLSBA Board of Advisors. A native of South San Antonio, she earned her B.A. in Government from the University of the Incarnate Word, where she worked as a Faith in Public Life campus organizer. Trustee Morales-García earned her M.S. in Nonprofit Management from Our Lady of the Lake University and has worked for Refugee Services of Texas. She is a passionate community activist, dedicated to eradicating disparities in scholastic and athletic performance.
